October 11, 2010

Hello,
We have been busy in Room 214! We are still reading "A Wrinkle in Time" and reviewing important aspects from the story. We're examining story elements, reading strategies, and vocabulary. We will continue to work on character analysis and summarizing what we read in our story. Spelling tests are always on Fridays. This week's words are: flow, general, group, health, however, increase, instrument, labor, length, and loud. The Vocabulary test is Wednesday. The words are: plot, exposition, conflict, rising action, climax, falling action, theme, protagonist, antagonist, and resolution. Please study at home and read AR books nightly!
In Georgia Studies, we have been examining the Trustee and Royal Periods in Georgia's early history. We have heard stories about the many interesting people that helped develop Georgia. This week we'll continue to examine how the early colonist grew discontent and went on to develop the country we now live in and know as the United States. We will review the causes of the American Revolution and Georgia's role in that time. We will look at influential people who were important to the victory of the Patriots over the British Loyalists. Students will have reading assignments regularly to read at night. Please sign these once you know your child has read them.
Have a great week at the Rock everyone!
Mrs. Pastor-Ramos
