December 6 to December 10, 2010

Hello,
We have been busy this past week since our field trip. We learned a great deal and met some very interested people. We want to thank Mr. Owens and Mrs. Toni for their help in guiding us through the Infantry Museum.
The week of the December 6th we'll be testing in MAP. After testing, we'll be moving forward in our unit on the Antebellum Period and Civil War. We will examine the differences of the North and South that caused the Civil War. We will study the life and trials of slaves and early Georgians in our state. On Friday, we will view a movie based on the novel NightJohn written by Gary Paulsen. A test on vocabulary will be given this Friday.
Next Friday, we will finish our study on the events of the Civil War by viewing the movie Glory. Please sign your permission slips in order to view this movie. Otherwise, students not given permission to view the movie will be given an alternate assignment in another classroom. These films will be a culminating review of what we are studying in our text. An open book test to complete Ch 7 will be assigned on this same Friday. Please study!
In English Language Arts, we'll continue working on grammar and spelling. We are continuing our unit on Parts of Speech. Students will practice writing, reading, and CRCT practice daily. Spelling tests are every Friday. Words are given on Friday for hte next week so students have a total of seven days to study. Please go to www.spellingcity.com or make flashcards to study these words.
This week's words are:
who's
align
foreign
design
patients
patience
add
ad
air
heir
Grades are being recorded daily for classwork, participation, and CRCT Warmups. Report cards will be issued upon return from the holidays, so these next two weeks will be the final collection for the 2nd Nine Weeks Period. Attend Saturday School on December 13th, make up work, and complete all assignments to help your grades.
We want you all to be successful!
See you on Monday! :)
Mrs. Pastor

November 29th to December 3rd 2010

Hello Students and Parents,
This week we will be going on our much anticipated field trip to the National Infantry Museum. Please make sure that the field trip permission form has been submitted if you want to attend. This promises to be a rich, learning experience for all of us.
On Monday, in Language Arts, we will begin working on grammar and continue focusing on Writing Workshop for the first ten minutes of each class. The last 10 minutes or so of each class will be spent reading. Please read at home as much as you can together. Tuesday, of course, is our field trip. Then the remainder of the week, we will finish our work in grammar and reading. Spelling test is on Friday! This week's words are desert-coarse-course-guest-guessed-mist-missed-accept-except-whose.
In Georgia Studies, we'll begin our unit on the Civil War. Please bring your textbooks to class with you. Tuesday will be an important day for us to examine how Georgia was involved in the history of our nation. Please study your vocabulary words to help with reading assignments.
See you on Monday! :)
