Hello,
I hope everyone has enjoyed their weekend. We have a busy week here in Room 214. We were planning a field trip to the National Infantry Museum; however, this has been rescheduled for November 30th. Please see me, Ms. Hammonds, or Mr. Andrade if you want more information.
This week we'll continue practice reading strategies. We will continue reading "The Payback" by Paul Langan, studying new vocabulary, and mastering our spelling and word recognition. We'll be reviewing the elements of a story such as plot and theme for our current story. The new vocabulary words are seething, extorted, raucous, intruding, caressed, devastated, agonizing, putrid, frankness, and recoiling. The spelling words for 6.3 are fight, thigh, hydrant, crystal, myth, cycle, lymph, sign, resign, and benign. There'll be a test on Friday covering these.
For Georgia Studies, we'll be reviewing for CRCT practice the standards that we have covered. Additionally, we'll be learning more about Georgia's early economic history, the invention of the cottin gin, and Eli Whitney. We'll study a market economy and commercial agriculture.
SS8H5 The student will explain significant factors that affected the development of Georgia as part of the growth of the United States between 1789 and 1840. a. Explain the establishment of the University of Georgia, Louisville, and the spread of Baptist and Methodist churches. b. Evaluate the impact of land policies pursued by Georgia; include the headright system, land lotteries, and the Yazoo land fraud. c. Explain how technological developments, including the cotton gin and railroads, had an impact on Georgia's growth. d. Analyze the events that led to the removal of Creeks and Cherokees; include the roles of Alexander McGillivray, William McIntosh, Sequoyah, John Ross, Dahlonega Gold Rush, Worcester v.
